This 2001 BMW M5 is finished in Jet Black over black Heritage Nappa leather, and it is powered by a 4.9-liter V8 paired with a six-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes xenon headlights, a sunroof, a rear spoiler, 19″ BBS CH wheels, heated and power-adjustable M Design front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, navigation, cruise control, Park Distance Control, and an optional M Audio sound system. The suspension has been modified with Dinan springs and Koni shocks, and service in 2018 reportedly included replacement of brake components, the front and rear control arms, clutch, flywheel, and transmission mounts. The car resided in California, New York, and Illinois before it was acquired by the seller in October 2015, reportedly from the family of the original owner, and it now has 123k miles. This E39 M5 is offered with manufacturer’s literature, a window sticker, service records, a Carfax report, and a clean Tennessee title in the seller’s name.

The car is finished in Jet Black and features xenon headlights, fog lamps, a sunroof, a rear lip spoiler, and dual twin exhaust outlets. The Carfax report indicates “minor damage” to the right-front of the car in April 2016, which the seller states occurred due to a collision with a road sign, and which resulted in repair and refinishing of the front bumper cover, passenger-side front fender, and lower rocker panel. The windshield, cowl, and molding were recently replaced. Corrosion is noted on the trunk lid near the license plate lights and in the fuel filler area, and other exterior blemishes are pointed out by the seller in the image gallery below.

Multi-spoke 19″ BBS CH wheels are wrapped in a mixed set of tires that measure 245/35 up front and 275/30 out back. Other equipment includes Dinan springs, Koni shocks, and a Dinan rear sway bar. Service in 2018 reportedly included replacement of the front brake pads, rotors, and sensors as well as the front and rear control arms.

The cabin features black Heritage Nappa leather upholstery that extends from the seats to the door panel inserts and dashboard. Black carpets are protected by embroidered floor mats, and brushed aluminum trim is present on the dashboard, center console, and doors. The M Design front seats are heated and power-adjustable, and other amenities include Park Distance Control, dual-zone automatic climate control, cruise control, rain-sensing wipers, a navigation system, and an M Audio sound system with a Denison iPhone adapter. A short-shift kit, a ZHP-style shift knob, an aluminum emergency brake handle, and a LoJack stolen vehicle recovery system have been added. The seller notes that the navigation screen sporadically reboots, and the front seats show signs of wear.

An M Sport multifunction steering wheel frames a 185-mph speedometer, an 8k-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges. The digital odometer shows 123k miles, approximately 30k of which were added under current ownership.

The 4.9-liter S62 V8 features dual-VANOS variable valve timing and was rated at 394 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque when new. Service in March 2020 included an oil change and replacement of the oil pan gasket.

Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission. Service in 2018 reportedly included rebuilding the driveshaft and replacement of the battery, clutch, clutch pivot pin, clutch release fork, flywheel, rear main seal, rear coolant plate gasket, transmission mounts, differential bushings, and the shifter joint and bushings.

The window sticker shows delivery to Centennial Imports of Eugene, Oregon as well as factory colors, equipment, and a total suggested retail price of $73,670. Manufacturer’s literature and four keys also accompany the car.
