This 1959 Norton Dominator is powered by a 597cc parallel twin paired with a four-speed gearbox and finished in silver over a matching frame. The bike was acquired by the seller in 2015, and subsequent work reportedly included overhauls of its engine, wheels, and fork as well as replacement of the tires, bodywork, seat, shocks, and exhaust. The bike features digital Smiths gauges, a bar-end mirror, a front number plate, and a magneto ignition. This Model 99 is offered with refurbishment photos and a clean Pennsylvania title in the seller’s name.

The 2015 refurbishment used reproduction bodywork and fenders according to the seller, which were painted silver along with the frame. Additional details include a front number plate, a two-up seat with red piping, both center and side stands, and replacement lighting.

Wire-spoke wheels with shouldered aluminum rims were overhauled and mounted with Avon tires. The conventional fork is said to have been fitted with Race Tech internals, while dual replacement shocks are mounted to the color-matched swingarm. Braking is from drums at both ends, with a twin leading-shoe design featured up front.

The no-rise handlebar features white grips and a bar-end mirror on the left. The Smiths digital gauges are in need of adjustment, and include a digital odometer that reportedly shows 1k miles ridden by the seller. Total mileage is unknown.

The 597cc parallel twin is said to have been overhauled and fitted with a new exhaust system, Skip Brolund magneto ignition, and wiring in 2015. An oil change was carried out in May 2020. The four-speed gearbox is shifted on the right and linked to the rear wheel via a drive chain.

Back in the olden days in the far off land known as the UK a vehicle be it car or motorbike would be registered and titled in the year that it was first purchased. So this bike could well be a 1955 model that sat in a showroom until 1959 when it was first registered. This is a nice bike that looks like it will sell for a fair price.

Picture number 27 seems to show ‘matching numbers’, in that the engine number matches the frame number (stamped vertically below the swing arm pivot). The number 14 confirms this as a model 99, but the engine number starting with 74 suggests it’s from 1955 rather than 1959. In ’59 Norton engine numbers started with 80. Additionally, by ’59 the Dominator 99 was fitted with a 6v alternator and coil ignition, not the magneto and dynamo set-up on this bike. My view is this is probably a 1955 machine.
