Officially, you couldn’t buy this European-market version of the SL-Class roadster in the United States. But the seller of this two-owners 1987 Mercedes-Benz 300SL, with very traditional straight-six power, reports buying it from the original owner in 1997, who in turn bought in Germany while traveling throughout Germany in 1988 and then transferring it to Colombia, South America. The current owner brought it to Bend, Oregon in 2018 and since then it has been his pleasure car until now that for personal reasons, he decided to sell it. It’s said to have been sparingly used for pleasure driving only ever since he bought it and reported to boast its original paint to a champagne metallic paint that today looks like new.

The rest of the car remains 90% original with its black leather upholstery, factory soft black top and the desirable champagne metallic removable hardtop, along with its rack. Recent work is said to have included a brake fluid flush and replacing the fuel lines, shifter bushings, sway bar links and bushings, and the front brake calipers and pads. This R107 comes with original European chrome-finished bumpers, fog lights, and a power radio antenna. An imperfection present on the soft top is detailed in the gallery.

The latest repairs have been new spark plugs, air and fuel filters, synchronization, and a few other maintenance items changed. The car is powered by a 2.9-liter 6 in-line with a four-speed automatic transmission, and a three-speed manual transmission. Additional equipment includes 15″ Gullideckel wheels, burl walnut interior trim, cruise control, and climate control. This R107 is offered with a tool kit, manufacturer’s literature, an accident-free Carfax report, and a clean Oregon title in the seller’s name.

Close-up photos of the body, soft top, and trim can be viewed in the gallery below. A body-color removable hardtop is included in the sale.

Silver 15″ Gullideckel wheels are wrapped in Arizonian Silver Edition and Good Year tires that measure 190/65-15. Braking is handled by four-wheel disc brakes with ABS. Curb marks are visible on two of the wheels.

The cabin features two front bucket seats and one small back “sofa-like seating surfaces upholstered in Black leather with matching carpets and door panels, a black dashboard, Equipment includes cruise control, manual front seats, automatic climate control, and a Pioneer FM/AM radio and a 5-CD stereo.
The six-digit odometer shows 105,125km (67,000 miles, approximately 25,000 of which were added by the seller during the past 25 years.
